How the silence remover works

It measures loudness
The audio is split into 10 millisecond windows. Each window gets a level in dBFS, where 0 dB is the loudest a file can be.

It finds the pauses
A window quieter than your volume threshold counts as silent. A run of silent windows at least as long as your minimum pause becomes a cut.

It keeps padding
The padding you set stays on both sides of every cut, so the first and last sounds of a word are not clipped.

It exports on your device
The kept parts are joined and encoded in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I remove silence from a video for free?+
Drop the file into the tool, move the three sliders until the preview sounds right, then press Remove silence and download. There is no account, no email and no watermark.
Is this video silence remover online, or do I have to install something?+
It is a web page. The first time you use it, your browser downloads the FFmpeg engine once. After that the whole edit runs on your device and the file is not uploaded.
What threshold and minimum pause should I use?+
The tool reads the noise floor of your file and suggests a threshold. Start with a 0.5 second minimum pause and 150 ms of padding. For a faster pace, try 0.3 seconds and 100 ms. If background noise hides the pauses, raise the threshold a few dB at a time.
What are the file size and length limits?+
Files up to 4 GB. Video up to 30 min, exported as MP4 at up to 1280 pixels on the long side. Audio up to 3 hours, exported as MP3. Encoding uses your own processor, so a long video takes a while.
Is this an AI silence remover?+
